their children in to get school clothes.
The Barn opened in March 1979. The
Barn was originally located in a feed mill building
at the northeast edge of Ozark that was remodeled
to be a clothing store. Each year, more
was added to the building until finally in 1985
the business had grown to the point that a new
building was going to have to be built to handle
all the business. Instead of this, The
Barn expanded to a second location in Dothan,
Alabama.
Within a year the Dothan store had outgrown
the building it had opened in, so they
The Barn was moved to a new location a
couple blocks south on Ross Clark Circle
to the present location. Even at
this location in 1991 this building had
to be expanded by 4,000 more square feet.
In Ozark, the old location
just was not big enough, and the town was
locating more businesses on Highway 231,
so 1996 The Barn in Ozark opened up in
the new location on Highway 231. Both stores
continue to grow.
The original location of
The Barn is now a receiving and distribution
center. In 1991 a complete computer
inventory control system was installed,
and all the merchandise at The Barn in
all locations is tracked by computer from
the time the orders are put on until the
time the clothing is sold. Approximately
50 to 60 people work for The Barn all the
time.
The Barn has three locations to serve you
locally in Alabama: Troy, Dothan,
and Greenville.
